Book Review: Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

Zenith (The Androma Saga #1)Zenith by Sasha Alsberg
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It is said to be released in small parts. This first installment was ok in my eyes. It was entertaining and I loved a few of the characters right away. The thing that left me with a low star score was that I felt like something was missing at the end of the book. Sure it is supposed to be released in small increments but as a reader I felt it was underwhelming. Almost too predictable at moments, this brief introduction to the saga felt cliché at times. Other times I was right there along side Andi and Lira rooting them on. There is a lot of potential for a strong blossoming friendship storyline between the female captain and her second, but at the end of this I felt a little disappointed seeing that the story was veering in the direction of yet another YA romance. This of course is just my opinion. But my thoughts and feelings went a little like this while reading:

"Oh whaaaaat? Girl space pirates? Awesome!"

"An entire crew of badass female characters dominating their territory in space?! Girl power!"

"oh wait.. who's this guy?"

"Wait so Andi has to go with Dex on a rescue mission now? What will happen with Lira, Breck, and Gilly?"

"The girl group is breaking up?"

"Wait who is this Nor character?"

"It's the end already?!"

The writing itself was beautiful and captivating at the beginning but it started to feel a little exhausted towards the end. Less feeling was attached to the story as time went on and I started to feel a little let down.

I'm now sure if I will continue reading the saga but I praise Sasha and Lindsay for following their dreams as writers and authors. I realize it takes a lot of work to publish something and I don't mean to bash anyone's work. 2 out of 5 stars because it was "OK".
